Cyprus Insurance Association appoints Director General

The Insurance Association of Cyprus announces the appointment of Stephie Dracou to the position of Director General of the Association, effective June 1, 2007. Commenting on the appointment, IAC chairman Philios Zachariades, said: “It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Mrs Dracou to the position of director general of the Association. Her vast and rich experience, on account of the various senior managerial positions she has held, be it at the corporate level or as an elected member of the IAC and other insurance bodies, offers testimony to the significant contribution we are all expecting she will make towards the industry.

 

“In opting for the creation of the director general post, the Association has demonstrated its resolve to upgrade the industry’s position in Cyprus as well as at the European level. We feel confident that Mrs Dracou will greatly advance the IAC’s goal of diversifying its activities and successfully address all its obligations emanating from the country’s membership of the European Union”.

 

For her part, Mrs Dracou said: “I would like to thank the IAC board for selecting me for the newly-created post of director general. I can assure the board and the Association’s members that I will spare no effort to assist the insurance industry meet head on all the challenges arising from the rapidly changing market environment, both at EU level and at home”.

 

Ms Dracou is a barrister at law at Middle Temple. She was chairman of the IAC twice. She is a founding member of the Cyprus Insurance Institute which she has also chaired. She has served as a member of the Board of the Motor Insurers’ Fund and Cyprus Hire Risks Pool. She was general manager of Sun Alliance in Cyprus and prior to her appointment she held the post of general manager in Laiki Insurance. She is a former board member of CyBC, has served as a Councilor at the Strovolos Municipality, vice chairman of the Nicosia/Kyrenia branch of Business/Professional Women Organisation and vice chairman of Equal Rights and Responsibilities movement. She is married to Antonis Dracos and has a son.
