Works by sixteen of Greece’s leading contemporary artists will be exhibited at the first group showing of its kind at the newly established Museum of Art and Design in Nicosia in collaboration with Skoufa Gallery of Athens.

The exhibition, Crossing Horizons, will open on Friday and will show works presented for the first time in Cyprus.

“In the pop-up exhibition Crossing Horizons, 16 famous artists and 50 important and historic works of art are presented, selected in cooperation with Yiannis Kalligas from the private collection of the Skoufa Gallery,” said Maria Ignatiou Siakalli, owner of the Kivotos Luxury Lifestyle Concept House and the Museum of Art and Design.

“These are works by both contemporary and former collaborators, timeless Greek visual artists who have not only defined, but continue to decisively influence both Greek and Cypriot contemporary art history during the transition from the 20th to the 21st century,” she said.

The curator, Yorgos Taxiarchopoulos, explained the meaning of the title ‘Crossing Horizons’, saying it resulted from the design of the exhibition space — specially created for the exhibition by Giulio Masciocchi of the Versace house — that directly converses with the horizons proposed by the selected artworks.

“The aim is for the public to understand that a work of art is an emotional asset and a valuable investment — an inseparable part of our cultural heritage which can and should shape the holistic experience of art, ultimately improving our quality of life,” Taxiarchopoulos added.

The exhibited works are by Stathis Alexopoulos, Spyros Vassiliou, Yiannis Gaitis, Yiannis Kottis, Thanasis Makris, Tasos Matzavinos, Panagiotis Beldekos, Konstantinos Parthenis, Vaggelis Rinas, Pavlos Samios, Antonis Skambavirias, Yiannis Tsarouchis, Praxiteles Tzanoulinos, Alekos Fassianos, Giorgos Chadoulis and Manolis Haros.

VIP opening is at 7pm on Friday, November 7, and the exhibition will remain open until November 14, 6-9pm daily. Entrance is free.
