The Cyprus Real Estate Agents’ Association has charged that multinational real estate companies are illegally operating in Cyprus and selling Greek Cypriot properties in the north.

Association spokeswoman, Elli Andreou told a House Committee meeting that some of the same foreign companies are active in the governmental controlled areas and at the same time are promoting Greek Cypriot property under Turkish occupation through the same web sites.

“We have lodged complaints, but nobody is doing anything.”
Furthermore, the specific agencies recently requested Parliament to amend legislation to enable them to operate legally in the Cyprus Republic.
She said the specific cases had been submitted to Parliament and the police, while when asked by reporters, she said she didn’t want to believe that Greek Cypriots were behind the illegal agencies.
The Chairman of the Committee, DISY’s Lefteris Christoforou said the embezzlement of Greek Cypriot properties in the north was of major concern to his committee and he called on the government to coordinate its actions in order to produce sufficient results.
