Pantech targets high-end markets with clamshell camera phone

Pantech Co., Ltd., Korea’s leading mobile phone manufacturer, has launched its PG-6100 multimedia clamshell phone in Argentina, targeting the high-end mobile phone market in the region.

The new handset will be offered via CTI Movil, the Argentine affiliate of American Movil, the largest mobile carrier in Latin America. The PG-6100 provides users with an advanced combination of both camera and phone technology, while also offering a trendy and stylish design.

The PG-6100 weighs 115gr. This intenna clamshell phone features a 2 mega pixel camera with smooth 4x digital zoom and a 1.9 inch 260,000 color TFT display as well as a 260,000 color OLED sub-display. It also provides Bluetooth functionality, a speakerphone, and an FM radio.

The new phone has 256MB internal memory and 64 polyphonic ring tones. Users can also send photos and phone numbers to other mobile phones through the infra-red data association (IrDA) functionality.

Pantech has become the sixth best-selling brand in Argentina since its first entry in the country in late 2005 and the company plans to further increase its market share from the present 6% to 10% by the end of 2007.
