The Consumer Price Index for August 2006 decreased by 0,54 units or 0,53% to 102,07 units compared to 101,53 in July 2006, the Statistics Service said. This is mainly due to increases in the prices of petroleum products, certain fresh fruit and vegetables, potatoes and fresh milk.

The rate of increase of the Index and therefore the rate of inflation for August 2006 compared to August 2005 was 3,10% while the rate for July 2006 stood at 3,22%.
