Laiki Bank launched its SMS Banking service, offering clients the opportunity to transact over their mobile phones. Laiki customers can pay utility bills, transfer money to designated accounts, access information about their accounts by using their mobile phones.

Laiki SMS Banking is the result of a research programme funded by the EU through the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation with the support of Intercollege.

Laiki first launched Internet banking in 2000 followed by Laiki ebank, which has become an important pillar of the group in offering flexible electronic products and services.

The first step towards developing SMS Banking was Laiki eBank alerts that sends messages to clients when a transaction is made through the use of their credit card and also equity trades.

Laiki SMS Banking takes this is a step further by offering banking services at a cost of only 2 cent per SMS request. Clients must first register with Laiki eBank (www.Laikiebank.com) where they select a four digit code, provide a short name and then designate the accounts that they want to be accessed by the system.
