Motor vehicle registrations drop during first 9 months of 2005

The total registrations of motor vehicles during the first nine months of 2005 decreased by 8.7% to 38,084 from 41,695 vehicles in the same period of 2004, according to a report by the Statistical Service titled ‘Registration of Motor Vehicles’ for the period January-September 2005.

The report notes that registrations of private saloon cars decreased to 28,618 from 32,187 in January-September 2004, meaning there was a decrease of 11.1%. Of the total private saloon cars, 13,505 vehicles or 47.2% were new and 15,113 vehicles or 52.8% were secondhand vehicles.

The registration of goods conveyance vehicles decreased by 3.3% to 3,462 in 2005, compared to 3,579 in 2004, while the registration of light goods vehicles increased by 0.6% to 2,712, from 2,696 in 2004, and heavy goods vehicles decreased by 15.1% to 750 in January-September 2005, from 883 in 2004.

Furthermore, the registration of mechanised cycles decreased by 2.4% to 3,707 in the first nine months of 2005, compared to 3,800 in January-September 2004.
