US Treasury Department Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing Marshall Billingslea is visiting Cyprus from April 18-19, to enhance cooperation between the United States and the Republic of Cyprus to ensure Nicosia has a strong and healthy financial sector.

The visit, part of a regional tour that includes a stop in Bahrain, is a follow-up to his trip last year, and highlights the Treasury’s commitment in working with partners in Cyprus and the broader region to strengthen their efforts to fight money laundering and counter the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT).

During his visit, Billingslea will meet Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, Finance Minister Harris Georgiades, new Central Bank Governor Constantinos Herodotou and other officials.

Billingslea will discuss the cooperation of Cyprus with the United States on fighting money laundering, enhancing transparency and other measures, such as complying with US sanctions to prevent illicit actors from exploiting the international financial system.
