TRAVEL: Trips abroad by Cyprus residents increased 11%

Cyprus residents taking a trip abroad in January spiked 11% reaching 119,570 from 107,759 the year before, according to data.

The most significant change in January was a 70.1% jump recorded in trips to Russia, that stood at 8,979 compared to 5,278 in January 2018.

In contrast, trips to Greece decreased by 4% while trips to the United Kingdom also dropped 4.9%.

Greece (35,190) was still the most popular destination, followed by trips to the UK (18,198) and then Russia (8,979).

The purpose given for a trip in January was by 79.2% leisure, 17.8% work, 1.8% studies and 1.2% other reasons.
