EU Health Ministers meeting focuses on response to Ebola

EU Ministers of Health, who met on Monday in Milan, focused on measures the EU is applying to tackle the Ebola fever epidemic, affecting some African countries.

The Health Ministers exchanged views on possible ways to support affected areas in Africa, prevent transmission of the disease to neighboring countries and further prepare Member States to deal with any incidents in the EU, an official press release said.

On the agenda of the first day of the informal meeting were also pain therapy and palliative care and therapeutic innovation for the benefit of patients.

The press release said that the discussion revealed a consensus among the Ministers on the need to strengthen efforts for easy access of patients to innovative therapies, an action that would help small member states, Cyprus Health Minister Philippos Patsalis noted.

On pain therapy and palliative care Patsalis supported the need for cooperation among member states to exchange and develop best practices.
