Zambartas Wineries is proud to see their wines gaining international recognition, as the highly esteemed Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) has just judged four of its wines to be among the top of the international competition, with two silver and two bronze medals awarded to the Cypriot boutique winery.

The esteemed annual awards, which took place in the heart of London on June 25, stand as one of the biggest and most prestigious wine competitions in the world, organised by the popular Decanter Magazine. The judging ceremony this year involved 224 specialist tasters from around the world, including 66 Masters of Wine and 18 Master Sommeliers. Famous wine journalist Steven Spurrier currently stands as chairman of the competition.

Following careful tasting, the panel awarded the Zambartas Maratheftiko 2011 and Zambartas Maratheftiko 2012 with a silver medal, while the Zambartas Xynisteri 2013 and Zambartas Shiraz-Lefkada 2012 both won a bronze medal. All results will be officially published in a special commemorative supplement free with the Decanter August issue, on sale on July 2.

As Zambartas Wines leave their mark on the international stage, the local boutique winery is particularly proud that all four wines sent to the Decanter competition scooped up a medal, judged amongst a vast array of top wines from around the globe.

Not a first time feat for the winery, their produce has gained plenty of previous international recognition, including a recent success this past March, which saw Zambartas Wineries awarded with one Gold and two Silver Medals at the Thessaloniki International Wine Competition.

With the company aiming to constantly raise the bar when it comes to Cyprus wines, their ongoing recognition abroad clearly reflects the fruitfulness of their endeavours. “We are particularly proud of this new award,” said owner of Zambartas Wineries, Akis Zambartas. “We have long insisted that local wine can be just as good as top international varieties, and coveted awards like this give our family-run winery good reason to just keep on improving the standard and taste of our produce, always drawing on the company ethos of honesty, authenticity and a dedication to quality.”

The popularity that Zambartas Wines now enjoy is proof of just how far they have come in a short period of time. Having kick-started production in 2006 with a mere 4500 bottles per year, the company headed by father Akis and son Marcos, has worked hard to pave the way to success. Today, Zambartas produces 60,000 bottles of wine on a yearly basis, distributed mainly by La Maison Du Vin (Nicosia) and enjoyed and praised by locals and foreigners alike.
