Animal lovers can now take their pets to public parks, despite municipal signs that ban them from doing so. However, they should make sure that they clean up after their dogs or face heavy fines.
According to the Greek animal protection site adespoto.gr, the ban will remain in place for public beaches (unless specifically designated) and at children’s play grounds, with fines at 1700 euros or up to 12 months in jail and 3400 euros for a repeated offence.
The website said that the Nicosia Municipality has started removing the signs from parks and will enhance them with more collection bins and bag dispensers.
Meanwhile, the capital’s municipality is also considering creating a special park for pets to roam freely, but has yet to find a suitable ground.
