Annual inflation rises in Cyprus and the Eurozone

Annual inflation rates recorded an increase in the EU, the Eurozone and Cyprus in April, according to data released today by Eurostat, while inflation dropped during the same period in Greece.

According to the data, inflation in Cyprus in April increased to 3.5%, from 3.2% a month earlier. In Greece, inflation was decreased to 3.7%, from 4.3% in March.

Euro area annual inflation in April was 2.8%, up from 2.7% in March, while inflation in the total of the 27 Member States also rose to 3.2%, from 2.9% in March.

Price changes in goods and services across the EU on an annual basis (April 2011/April 2010) were 9.1% in energy, 4.2% in cigarettes and alcohol, 5.9% in transport, 1.7% in housing, 1.0% in restaurants and hotels, 1.7% in education, 0.5% in health, 0.7% in household equipment, 1.3% in clothing and 0.6% in telecommunications.

Inflation rates for all Eurozone Member States in April were as follows: Estonia 5.4%, Portugal 4.0%, Luxembourg 4.0%, Slovakia 3.9%, Austria 3.7%, Greece 3.7%, Cyprus 3.5%, Spain 3.5% Finland 3.4%, Belgium 3.3% Italy 2.9% Germany 2.7%, Malta 2.4%, France 2.2% , Netherlands 2.2%, Slovenia 2.0%, Ireland 1.5%.
