Motor vehicles registration in Cyprus down by 11.2% in Q1 of 2011

Total registrations of motor vehicles during the first quarter of 2011 fell by 11.2% to 9,959 in January – March 2011, from 11,213 vehicles in the first quarter of 2010.

According to figures released by Cyprus Statistical Service, the registration of private saloon cars decreased to 7,263, from 8,271 in January–March 2010, amounting to a decrease of 12.2%. Of the total private saloon cars, 3,695 vehicles or 50.9% were new and 3,568 vehicles or 49.1% were used cars.

Furthermore, registration of commercial vehicles fell by 26.0% to 1,336 in 2011, compared to 1.806 in 2010, whereas light commercial vehicles decreased by 26.5% to 1,086, from 1,477 in January – March 2010 and heavy trucks registration declined by 18.7% to 196 in January-March 2011 from 241 in 2010.

According to CyStat figures registration of Mopeds (below 50 cubic centimetres – cc) increased marginally by 2.1% to 98 in January-March 2011, compared to 96 in January-March 2010.

Motorcycles (above 50 cc) fell by 19.4% to 489 in 2011, compared to 607 in January-March 2010.
