The Cyprus tourism sector enjoyed a better year in 2010, with arrivals increasing by 1.5% for the whole year to 2,172,993, having declined by 10.9% in 2009.
However, arrivals ended the year on a weak note, with a drop of 7.6% in December when compared with the same month of 2009.
For the whole of 2010, arrivals from the UK, which accounted for 43.5% of the total, fell by 11.6% to 946,052.
By contrast, arrivals from Russia, which is now the second largest market, rose by 50.5% to 223,854. The share of Russian tourists thereby rose to 10.3% in 2010 from 6.9% in 2009.
The year 2010 was a good one for the German market (the third-largest market), with arrivals up by 6.1% in 2010 to 139,183.
By contrast, arrivals from Greece, the fourth-largest market, were down by 3.2% to 127,661.
