Eurostat: Unemployment in Cyprus increases by 0,1% in November 2010

Unemployment in Cyprus in November 2010 rose to 7,2% compared to 7,1% in October, Eurostat announced today.

According to figures released in Brussels, male unemployment in November was 7,0%, recording no variation as to October 2010, whereas female unemployment recorded an increase and was estimated at 7,4% compared to 7,3% in October 2010.

Unemployment among young people (under 25) in September 2010 was 19,5%.

For Greece, Eurostat recorded an increase of 12,9% for the third quarter of 2010. It was 12,2% the second quarter of the year.

Male unemployment was 10,3%, female unemployment stood at 16,6% and youth unemployment (under 25) was 33,4%.

The unemployment rate in the EU27 was 9,6% in November 2010, unchanged compared to October. The the euro area the unemployment rate was 10,1 % in November 2010, recording no change as to October.

Eurostat estimates that 23,248 million men and women in the EU27, of whom 15,924 million were in the euro area, were unemployed in November 2010. Compared to November 2009, unemployment rose by 606,000 in the EU27 and by 347,000 in the euro area.

Among the member states, the highest unemployment rates were recorded in Spain (20,6%), Lithuania (18,3%) and Latvia (18,2%), whereas the lowest rates were recorded in the Netherlands (4,4%), Luxembourg (4,8%) and Austria (5,1%).
