Telecommunications company NOKIA informed the Ministry of Communications and Works that maps of the Republic of Cyprus will be reintroduced in its offered services, rectifying its previous “mistaken” action to remove the maps, an official announcement says.

According to the announcement, the company informed the Ministry that all necessary actions are taken to include again Cyprus in its “OVI maps”.

It is added that NOKIA Executive Board Member Esko Aho sent a letter to the Ministry, apologizing for the “unfortunate situation and the entirely non-intentional inconvenience and tension caused to the Government and the people” of the Republic of Cyprus.
The announcement also notes that Aho said in his letter that the company recognises the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus and that NOKIA removed the information provided in its OVI maps, due to a full upgrade to be completed within 2011.
