Market adds losses after sentiment data

US Stocks added losses on Friday following a mixed report on July consumer sentiment.

Wall Street was already weak ahead of the data after disappointing results from bellwethers Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) and American Express Co (AXP.N).

The Dow Jones industrial average (.DJI) was down 53.89 points, or 0.59 percent, at 9,015.40. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index (.SPX) fell 7.96 points, or 0.82 percent, at 968.33. The Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC) slid 32.79 points, or 1.66 percent, at 1,940.81.

Microsoft shares were off about 10 percent to $23.04 on Nasdaq, while American Express shed 3 percent to $28.54.
