Former Cyprus President Clerides in stable condition

Former President of the Republic Glafcos Clerides underwent angioplasty on Monday to open a small artery and is said to be in a stable condition.

According to his doctor, Iosif Kasios, Clerides was admitted to the American Heart Institute on Monday afternoon following chest pain earlier in the day. Doctors ruled the former President required urgent angioplasty after an angiogram showed a small artery was blocked.

Kasios said the former President, was in a stable condition will remain in hospital for two days.
Clerides underwent angioplasty in February 2007 at the American Heart Institute to open two narrowed coronary arteries.

A lifelong politician, Clerides served as President of the Republic from 1993 to 2003.
