The EU summit in Prague for the Eastern Partnership, aiming at strengthening ties between the EU and six Eastern Europe countries, namely Ukraine, Belarus, Moldavia, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan, wrapped up its works on Thursday.

Cyprus was represented at the meeting by Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcos Kyprianou, who told CNA after the summit that Cyprus supports the development of relations, which would be of ''mutual benefit for those countries and the EU.''

Addressing the summit, Kyprianou said that in order to meet the objectives of the Eastern Partnership a series of measures should be implemented, such as the establishment of student exchanges, common cultural and research programmes, and the promotion of business and tourist exchanges, so as to strengthen the climate of trust among diverse peoples.

Kyprianou noted that the movement of people, goods and services was the driving force of the continuous development of the EU and for this reason one of the top priorities of the EU was the effective movement of citizens of member states and the encouragement of transparent and easily accessible opportunities for all citizens moving within the Union.

He added that this initiative aims at conveying the message that cohabitation through diversity was the model that should be applied within the EU and neighboring states.
