Cyprus and Switzerland signed a contract to co-fund a project to renovate a building in the UN controlled buffer zone, in Arab Ahmed area, opposite Ledra Palace in Nicosia.

The project is expected to contribute towards promoting bicommunal contact and revitalising the buffer zone and the surrounding area.

The contract for the building, which will be used as a training centre and a cooperation house, was signed by Director General of the Planning Bureau Andreas Moleskis and Swiss Ambassador to Cyprus Peter Vogler.

The project, undertaken by the non-governmental organisation Historic Dialogue and Research Association, is expected to be completed in two years.

The European Economic Area will be funding the project with 749,920 euros, while Switzerland will contribute 118,324 euros and Sweden 100,000 euros. The Cypriot government will be granting an additional sum of 54,560 euros from national sources.
