Cyprus to battle with Portugal for Davis Cup Group II tie

Cyprus will face Portugal on July 18-20 for the second group of the Davis Cup.

The five matches, four singles and one double, will be held in Porto. Cyprus is entering this Cup tie without its star Marcos Paghdatis, 29th in the tennis world rankings, who withdraw from the Cypriot team due to his very difficult schedule of tournaments, in the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters, as well as his preparation for the Olympics in China.

Today, Cyprus' George Kallis in his debut match will face Portugal's Frederico Gil and Rui Machado will clash with Photos Kallias.

On Saturday, the Portuguese team, comprising Gil and Tavares will take on Cyprus comprising Kallias and Leonidis.

The tie will conclude on Sunday with two more singles matches, namely Frederico Gil Vs Photos Kallias and Rui Machado Vs George Kallis.

The winner team will be the one to achieve three victories.
