Cyprus unemployment rate at 4% in Q3 2007

According to the results of the quarterly Cyprus Labour Force Survey, which is carried out in accordance with EU rules, the total number of employed amounted to 379,777 in the third quarter of 2007, of which 210,910 were males and 168,867 were females.

The employment rate for persons aged 15-64 was 71.3% (males 80.8% and females 62.4%), recording an increase from the corresponding quarter of 2006.

The number of unemployed was 15,622 (males 6,893 and females 8,729) and the unemployment rate was 4.0% of the labour force (males 3.2% and females 4.9%).

This was higher than in the second quarter, when the rate was 3.4% (males 3.2% and females 3.6%) but the same as in the third quarter of 2006.

However, the unemployment rate for young persons aged 15-24 rose to 10.4% compared with 8.6% in the corresponding quarter of 2006.
