Inflation rises to 3% in October 2007

Inflation in Cyprus reached 3% in October 2007 by comparison to 2.6% in September of this year and 1,4% in October 2006. Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat) announced here today that the Consumer Price Index for October 2007 increased by 0,99 units or 0,93% to 106,95 units compared to 105,96 in September 2007.
CyStat attributes the upward movement of the Index mainly to increases in the prices of clothing and footwear items, the fees of private third level education institutions, petroleum products, electricity and gas.
Decreases have been recorded in the prices of certain fresh fruit and vegetables.
The rate of increase of the Index and therefore the rate of inflation for October 2007 was 3,0% compared to 2,6% in September 2007 and 1,4% in October 2006.
For the period January-October 2007, the CPI recorded an increase of 2,1% compared to the corresponding period of 2006.
