Cyprus motor regs up 32.9% y/y in Jan-Sep

The Statistical Service has announced that total registrations of motor vehicles during the first nine months of 2007 increased by 32.8% to 50,515 from 38,043 vehicles in the same period of 2006.

Private saloon cars increased to 37,466 from 27,343 in January-September 2006, thus increasing by 37.0%.

Of the total number of private saloon cars, 17,970 (48.0% of the total) were new and 1,.496 (52.0%) were used vehicles.

Registrations of goods conveyance vehicles increased by 28.4% to 5,418 in 2007, compared with 4,218 in 2006.

Light goods vehicles increased by 35.6% to 4,232, from 3,120 in 2006.

Heavy goods vehicles increased by 8.0% to 1,186 in January-September 2007, from 1,098 in 2006.

Mechanised cycles increased by 12.4% to 4,366 in 2007, compared to 3,883 in January – September 2006.

Registrations have been booming since the government imposed cuts in excise duty of up to 40% on a range of new and second-hand vehicles in November 2006.
