Tourism revenue continues to rise

Tourism revenue in Cyprus continued on its growth path in January, in line with arrivals that continue to increase and will probably surpass last year’s record 4 mln visitors.

Based on the results of the Passengers Survey carried out by the Statistical Service (Cystat), revenue from tourism reached €69.2 mln in January, an increase of 53.1% as compared to the same month of the previous year (€45.2 mln).

Revenue from tourism reached €86.9 mln in December, an increase of 17% from the corresponding month of the previous year (€74.3 mln).

Total revenue reached €3,209.4 mln in 2024 compared to €2,990.6 mln the previous year, an increase of 7.3%, with nine months last year recording increases, two remained unchanged and one saw a drop.

The average expenditure per person was €617.65 in January, up 20.3% from €513.52 in January 2024, while tourist arrivals were also higher at 112,100, up from 87,961 in January 2024.

Holidaymakers from Lebanon were the biggest spenders during their vacation, at €985.93 compared to €654.31, which based on average stay of 9.7 days, worked out at €101.64 per day.

Tourists from Germany and Britain were next in line, spending €704.72 and €704.60, respectively, and stayed the longest in January at an average 10.2 and 12.2 days. As a result, they spent €69.09 and €57.75 per day, respectively.

Tourists from Israel (the largest market with 21.1% of the all arrivals in January) spent on average €176.13 per day, but had among the shortest stays at an average 3.4 days per person. In fact, they spent €598.85 for the duration of their holiday, less than €674.76 in January last year.
