President Anastasiades in Estonia for official visit

President Nicos Anastasiades arrived on Wednesday in Tallinn, Estonia, for a two-day official visit to sign a digital governance and cyber security agreement.

Government spokesman Marios Pelekanos said the President would have meetings with the leadership of Estonia to discuss the Cyprus problem, Ukraine, the migration issue, energy security, EU-Turkey relations, green and the digital transition.

An updated Memorandum of Understanding will be signed on digital governance and cybersecurity during a meeting with the Estonian prime minister.

Pelekanos said these issues are high on the Republic’s list of priorities.

“It is for this reason that 23% of the amount allocated to the Republic of Cyprus from the Recovery and Resilience Facility will be used for the transition to digital governance so there will be benefits for all citizens and businesses”.

On Thursday, Anastasiades and his wife Andri will be welcomed by the President of Estonia, Alar Karis, to be followed by talks between the delegations.

The two delegations will discuss bilateral ties, the war in Ukraine, EU-Turkey relations, energy, green economy and digital transformation.

The President will also meet the mayor of Tallinn and attend an official luncheon hosted by President of the Parliament Jüri Ratas.

On Friday, Anastasiades meets Prime Minister Kaja Kallas to sign an updated MoU to enhance Cyprus’ efforts for digital reforms in sectors such as the Civil registry, migration and cybersecurity.

The Cypriot delegation will also visit CybExer Technologies, a company specialising in cybersecurity issues.
