The Cyprus Met Office issued a yellow warning for heavy rain and stormy weather covering a 24-hour period until late afternoon on Thursday.

Rain is expected in many areas across the island accompanied by isolated thunderstorms making driving conditions hazardous with reduced visibility and aquaplaning.

Total rain accumulation is likely to exceed 50 millimetres over a six-hour period.

The public is advised to be aware of the potential for localised flooding to properties, with disruption to outdoor activities.

In the highest Troodos peaks, snow or sleet is forecast.

Thursday will be cloudy with rain in many areas and isolated thunderstorms. Snow is forecast for the higher Troodos peaks.

Maximum temperatures will be 14°C inland, around 16°C on the coasts and 7°C in the mountains.

Thursday night will be mainly cloudy with scattered showers or thunderstorms expected. Snow or sleet is expected on higher ground.

Friday will be partly cloudy with scattered showers or isolated thunderstorms with snow or sleet in the Troodos mountains. It will feel less cold than in previous days.
