WEATHER: Storms hit sunny Cyprus, cause power cuts

Rain and stormy weather in the Nicosia suburbs and surrounding villages outside the capital experienced power cuts due to bad weather prevailing over the island on Monday afternoon.

According to an announcement by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, crews are working on restoring power to the affected areas which include Kokkinotrimithia, Paliometocho, Meniko and Akaki.

Meanwhile, storms were reported in mountainous areas due to a low-pressure system affecting the region.

Police also warned drivers to be aware of wet conditions, by driving slower and keeping a safe distance from other vehicles.

Experts says the unseasonal weather will change from Wednesday with temperatures on Cyprus rising again for a much warmer outlook.
