TECHNOLOGY: Robot Sophia is coming to Cyprus

Sophia, the first social humanoid robot to be awarded citizenship  is to be a key speaker at the Reflect Festival which will be held in Limassol on 9-10 May at the Carob Mill. 


Trumpeted as the biggest festival between South Europe and the Middle East, Reflect Festival focuses on a series of sectors such as Artificial intelligence, Health, Philosophy, Urban planning, travel, art and design.

Reflect Festival will bring together trend setters for the future, people who with their actions are challenging the current status quo presenting new perspectives for the future.

People who have already worked to bring the future closer to the present and who travel all over the world to share their vision, their work and ideas, to inspire others to embrace the prospects of the future and to harness their creativity to change things "here and now".

A keynote speaker and the event’s attraction will be Sophia the world's first Android citizen, who is to come to Cyprus for the first time.

Developed by Hong Kong based company Hanson Robotics Sophia is considered to be one of the world’s most advanced humanoid robot created by combining innovations in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Art.

On October 11, 2017, Sophia was introduced to the UN with a brief conversation with the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina J. Mohammed. On October 25, at the Future Investment Summit in Riyadh, the robot was granted Saudi Arabian citizenship, becoming the first robot ever to have a nationality

Other keynote speakers attending Reflect include Martin Hauge Investor of Spotify and Vivino, Daniel Marek, a specialist in unconscious decision-making and inventor of prognostic cognitive tools, Ralph Hinsche, Business Development Manager at NVIDIA.

Other key people from major companies such as Airbus, Aeromobil, Lego and many others will also attend. More speakers are to be announced as the date approaches.

Reflect Festival is where innovators from various parts of the globe meet and share stories through presentations, discussions, conversations in panels and workshops.
