Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, will attend events in Paris to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of WW I on 11 November, at the invitation of his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

He is scheduled to visit the French capital on November 9-11 to attend WWI Centennial Commemoration events along with other world leaders such US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

The Armistice of 11 November 1918, also known as the Armistice of Compiègne, after the place where it was signed, ended the first global war in human history.

After more than four years of horrific fighting and the loss of millions of lives, the guns on the Western Front fell silent. Although fighting continued elsewhere, the armistice between Germany and the Allies was the first step to ending the Great War.

Macron is also expected to pay an official visit to Cyprus, which will most probably take place in January.

Anastasiades is scheduled to pay an official visit to Austria on November 12-14.
