Good news for football fans in Cyprus as subscription channels Cablenet and Primetel agreed to join forces and show their sports content on a joint platform, to offer viewers the best package available.
Their main objective is to bring together Cyprus football league games under one roof, providing subscribers of either platform the chance to watch sports events broadcast by the other provider.
The deal will be implemented at the beginning of 2019, allowing viewers to follow the live games of seven Cypriot teams – Omonia, APOEL, AEK Larnaca, Anorthosis, Paphos FC, Karmiotissa and Ermis Aradippou – live on 10 different sports channels.
Subscribers will also have the chance to follow some of Europe’s big leagues such as Spain’s La Liga, the French Ligue 1 and the German Bundesliga.
Primetel and Cablenet’s shared platform will also broadcast games from the top European Basketball tournaments.
Viewers will have the opportunity to watch their favourite teams through the Live Streaming service of the platforms and other sports programmes.
The agreement is also to benefit businesses like pubs, cafes or restaurants who screen games, as they will be able to have access to the content offered by Primetel and Cablenet under a single subscription, thus simplifying the registration and installation process.
The deal is certainly good news for Cypriot football fans as currently if a viewer wants to watch all the games, it would cost around €115 a month from at least three different providers.
Speaking at a joint press conference Cablenet Managing Director Nicolas Shacolas said: "The ability of any friend of the sport to find the content that interests him on multiple platforms and thus have the choice of their provider in the light of the overall services offered, is something we sought from the beginning.”

Primetel CEO Ermis N. Stephanou said: "With a belief in our vision for the unification of Cypriot football (under one TV platform), we are very glad to be taking an important step today to offer more value to our subscribers on both sides, with upgraded TV content at affordable prices for all."
The other main competitor in the sector is Ctyavision which has the rights to show the other Cypriot clubs and the English Premier League.
Primetel launches seamless Visa
Primetel in cooperation with Revolut, a Fintech startup, has launched the seamless ‘Primetel Visa’, which rewards its users with free data usage.

Directly connected to a Revolut application, the Visa card offers users a number of benefits.
