Thousands turned out to support the victims of the Athens wildfires at a charity concert in Nicosia by popular Greek singers Antonis Remos and Anna Vissi to raise funds as part of a media campaign #StandByGreece.

Tuesday night’s free concert was a big hit raising thousands in donations at collection stands with all proceeds going towards rebuilding public interest infrastructure and supporting children in the fire-stricken areas.

Other bands that performed at the concert were Theo & Alex, OnTour, Cashiers, Neon Knights, The Boots, and Fuse.

Anna Vissi and Antonis Remos were received earlier on Tuesday by President Nicos Anastasiades, who expressed deep sorrow for the tragedy that has befallen Greece.

He also called on everyone to support the media campaign including; banks, NGOs, businesses, individuals, and the organisation Hope for Children, under the auspices of the Commissioner for Volunteerism, and thanked all the singers for their contribution.

Cypriot singer Vissi said she was touched and proud that Cyprus and its media were organising such an event. Greek star Remos said he was blessed and thanked the Cypriots for their love.

Fire officials in Greece say the death toll from a wildfire that raged through a coastal area east of Athens to 91 and reported that 25 people are missing six days after blaze.

Greek officials previously had not provided a tally of the people reported missing.

The fire sped flames through Mati without warning on July 23. A database maintained by the Centre for the Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters in Brussels shows it as the deadliest wildfire in Europe since 1900.

The vast majority of victims died in the fire itself, though a number drowned in the sea while fleeing the flames.

Dozens of volunteer divers, some of them retired Navy Seals, are still searching the sea looking for the bodies of more possible victims.
