More Cypriots are taking trips abroad this summer, according to the official passenger survey.


 There was a 4.7% increase in the number of Cyprus residents taking a foreign trip in June with Greece the most popular destination.

Based on the Passenger Survey, 115,450 residents of Cyprus returned from a journey abroad in June compared to 110,235 in the same month of 2017.

There was an increase of 4.2% in trips of residents to Greece (40,911 from 39,254 in June 2017) but there was a decrease of 20.4% in trips to the UK (19,905 down from 24,998).

And Russia, up 2%, was the third most popular destination with 5,477 taking a trip there last month, followed by Germany with a 38.5% increase or 3,633 taking a flight.

Romania, France and Bulgaria were also popular destinations in June.

Most travellers were aged 25-44, and the main purpose of the journeys were 56.5% holidays, 25.8% business and 16.4% for studies.

Cypriot residents going abroad in May also increased by 1.7% year-on-year.
