DP World Limassol has added a range of new handling equipment as part of an ongoing upgrade ‎that started soon after the company took over the management of the port from the state in late January.

The new equipment will “significantly enhance the efficiency and safety of port operations and reduce vessel turnaround time,” the company said in an announcement, adding that the new equipment will be used primarily for the loading and unloading of general cargo, break bulk and oil and gas.
The new equipment includes a Reach Stacker 40 tonnes for the handling of general cargo and containers, three ITVs (Tug Masters) for the movement of cargoes on trailers, one 64 tonne Mobile Harbour Crane with two spreaders for handling of general/bulk cargoes, and one Ro/Ro fork lift 37.5 tonnes for handling of general cargo and containers.
In addition to making loading and unloading faster and easier, the operator compartment of these new machines has been designed to provide good sight lines and better working comfort‎, the announcement said.
“The addition of this new equipment is an integral part of our commitment to provide high quality trade enabling services in Cyprus. DP World is a global leader in the management and operations of ports and we will continue making improvements to deliver a better service for port users,” said Charles Meaby, General Manager, DP World Limassol.
Container handling is DP World’s core business globally and generates more than three quarters of its revenue. In 2015, it handled 61.7 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units), while the current gross capacity of 79.6 million TEU is expected to rise to more than 100 million TEU by 2020, in line with market demand.
