FedEx Corp. (http://www.fedex.com ) has committed $1 mln in cash and transportation support to deliver emergency supplies and critical medical aid to the thousands of migrants and refugees escaping conflicts, and provide on-going assistance to both the people and the local communities affected by the crisis.

“Humanitarian relief has been in our DNA for decades, and FedEx understands how such a crisis can dramatically alters lives and communities,” said David Ross, regional president of FedEx Express Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa.
“Working together with international relief organisations, we are utilising our global transportation network and resources to assist the affected people, to improve their quality of life.”
FedEx is mobilising its humanitarian relief programme through a donation of $1 mln to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The company will also use existing relationships with international organisations, including Direct Relief and Heart to Heart International, working closely with local partners in the most affected countries.
Specific contributions include a $1 mln cash donation to the IFRC in response to its international appeal for assistance in countries including Italy, Greece, Serbia, Hungary and Macedonia.
FedEx will transport on behalf of Direct Relief large volumes of medical supplies for use in refugee camps in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey providing shelter for Syrian refugees, while on behalf of Heart to Heart International large volumes of essential hygiene kits will be shipped for use on the ground by international medical corps in providing emergency healthcare to refugees in Greece.
On-going cash donations will also continue to the American Red Cross and its Annual Disaster Giving Programme.
FedEx will also provide “bags to the future” for the youngest refugees affected by this crisis. Each bag contains toys and other items to help children adapt to their new environment. These are made possible through FedEx employee donations.
