LETSDOIT: Cyprus volunteers collect 23 tonnes of rubbish

Just over 9,000 volunteers took part in the annual “Let’s do it Cyprus!” over the weekend, collecting 22,848 kilos of rubbish that included 2,950 kilos of recyclables.
In all, 9,442 people took part in the campaign that is part of the international “Let’s do it World!” effort that aims to rid natural areas from rubbish, according to Environment Commissioner Ioanna Panayiotou.
The first campaign in Cyprus, in September 2012, saw a total of 4,000 volunteers, that has been gradually increasing, with 9,717 volunteers the next year and about 10,000 in April 2014.
