Just a month after its opening, Caffe Nero in Engomi Nicosia is taking its customer by a pleasant surprise by placing painting, ‘The Birth of Venus’ by famous Cypriot artist Ioannis Kissonergis, on display. Ioannis Kissonergis is one of the fathers of Contemporary Cypriot art and his contribution to its evolution was substantial. Caffe Nero is certainly introducing a new novelty by exhibiting such a prestigious work of art.

Ioannis Kissonergis paintings have been recognized as iconic pieces of Cypriot art and have been included in the ‘Cyprus Collection’ at the Leventis Gallery. Notably, he was the first Cypriot artist to paint from nature and the first to master the watercolour technique. His work is characterised by a concentration of detail, refined lines and delicate forms of colours. His ‘Birth of Venus’ painting was a museum item itself and was purchased at a recent auction by Psatharis Auction House. It depicts the Roman Goddess of love and beauty being transported in a shell, as a fully mature woman, from the sea to Paphos in Cyprus.
