CYPRUS: Dro.Me.A. Racing success at Half-Marathon

Dro.Me.A. Racing runners’ club made an impact at the events of the Pokka Coffee Half-Marathon, which took place in Pervolia – Larnaca. In addition to the mass participation by runners from the club, many achieved distinctions in their respective categories in the half-marathon, 5-km and the children’s 1-km and 2-km races.

In the half-marathon race there was an open category and a Cyprus championship category as well. Dro.Me.A. Racing runners were among the top finishers with Kassahun Jebel (1st in the Cyprus Championship – for GSP), Fivos Constantinou (2nd in the open category – also for GSZ) and Pavel Borodin (5th in the open category). Furthermore, Dro.Me.A. Racing’s Svetlana Kelekeyeva (also of GSZ) was 1st in the women’s 20-34 years old, Nikos Sourmelis was 1st in the men’s 40-49 years old category and Charalambos Ioannou (also of GSO) was 1st in the men’s 30-39 years old category. Furthermore, Zarina Mentayeva (also of GSP) was the winner in the women’s open category.
Many Dro.Me.A. Racing runners also excelled in the 5 km, with Georgia Theodosiou finishing 3rd and Giorgos Tofi (also of GSE) taking first place, in women and men respectively.

In the children’s events, Dro.Me.A. Racing future top runners demonstrated promising performances with Emiolios Ndambouzov in the 2000 m (2nd in the boys 11-14 years old) and Stella Anastasi in the 1000 m (1st in the girls up to 10 years old).
Mr. Nikos Sourmelis, who is in charge of the Dro.Me.A. Racing running academies in Limassol, expressed his satisfaction regarding the team’s overall performance in the whole event and emphasized that: ‘our young runners filled us with joy through their achievements and especially through their systematic participation in sport events, which promotes sports mentality and ethical sports behaviour.’
