EU: Cyprus and Greece top Moscovici’s visit list as Commissioner

Cyprus and Greece will be among the first countries Pierre Moscovici will visit if confirmed by the European Parliament, the EU's Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs Union Commissioner-designate told MEPs on Thursday.

During his three-hour hearing before the EP Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, in Brussels, Moscovici said that with these visits he aims to sent a message for the need of economic recovery.

He also noted that there is no contradiction between structural reforms and development, with the first being necessary for the latter.

Morover, Moscovisi referred to the sacrifices of the peoples of Greece, Cyprus and Portugal, noting at the same time that these countries are in the path of recovery.

He said that the Juncker Commission will take into account the social dimension in each prospective bailout program, while defending the role of the Troika in averting bankruptcy.
