JORDAN: Cyprus Minister of Energy holds contacts in Amman

Cyprus Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotrypis held a series of contacts in Amman, Jordan as part of his one-day working visit to the Hashemite Kingdom.

Lakkotrypis had separate meetings with the Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, Minister of Energy Mohammad Hamed, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Nidal Mardi Al Katamine, Minister of Industry and Trade Hatem Hafez Al Halawani as well as with the leadership of Amman`s Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

During his meeting with the Jordanian Prime Minister, Lakktotrypis stressed that Cyprus and Jordan constitute pillars of stability and that close cooperation between the two countries is in the interest of both Cyprus and Jordan and the region as well.

He also expressed Cyprus readiness to assist Jordan`s efforts to strengthen to enhance its relations with the EU. The Cypriot Minister had the opportunity to brief the Prime Miniser on Cyprus President Efforts to solve the Cyprus problem.

On his part Jordan`s Prime Minister expressed its country`s interest to further develop the two country`s bilateral trade ties in all fields giving special emphasis on cooperation in the field of supplying Jordan with Cypriot natural gas.

Later on Lakkotrypis met with Jordan`s Minister of Energy with whom he discussed ways for the further enhancement between the two countries in the field of energy.

Hamed also referred to his country`s efforts to achieve energy security in Jordan, while Lakkotrypis expressed Cyprus` readiness to cooperatte with Jordan in the fields of Renewable Energy and natural gas. The two ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

During the meeting with Jordan`s Minister of Tourism, Lakkotrypis discussd the need to upgrade the tourist ties between the two countries, through the increase of the tourist flows between Jordan and Cyprus, The two Ministers ascertained the opportunity of exploring common actions for the attraction of tourists, as tourist destinations both countries have a complementary and not a competitive relations.

Lakkotrypis and the Jordanian Minister of Trade discussed ways of improving trade ties between the two countries, while the Cypriot Minister briefed his Jordanian colleague on the availability of Cypriot agricultural products which could be sold in the Jordanian market.

In the reception organised by Amman`s Chamber of Commerce, Lakkotrypis outlined the investments and business opportunities offered in Cyprus.
