Cyprus Foreign ministry issues travel warning for Thailand

Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued to day a travel advice for Thailand advising citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, who are permanent residents or intend to travel to Thailand, to avoid all travel in certain areas in the country, where there is a risk of outbreaks of fighting.

As noted, on 20th May 2014, the Chief of the Thai Army declared martial law across the whole of Thailand, a fact that enables security forces to impose a curfew, arrest suspects without charges, censor the media, ban political rallies and restrict access to specific areas.

According to MFA`s advice “there is increased military presence in Bangkok and neighboring provinces. In the capital Bangkok and the surrounding regions there is intense military activity”.

MFA indicates that the situation in the country is evolving and advises Cypriot citizens who are in or intend to travel to Thailand are advised to monitor news reports (international and local) for any developments, and follow the instructions of the local Authorities.
