Cyprus has oversubscribed the set targets of the Europe 2020 strategy, in education, data released on Friday by Eurostat showed.
In 2013, the proportion of those aged 30 to 34 who had completed tertiary education was 47.8% in Cyprus, whereas the Europe 2020 strategy’s target is to increase the proportion to at least 40% of the EU28 population in this age group by 2020.
Women lead the way in this category as the proportion of female university graduates in Cyprus reaches 53.4%, while men`s is 41.6%.
In the same year the proportion of early leavers from education and training (population aged 18-24 who had at most lower secondary education and were currently not in further education or training) halved from 18.2% to 9.1%, compared with 2005.
The rate of women leaving school early was just 4.2%, while men`s was 14.8%.
The Europe 2020 target is to reduce the share of early leavers from education and training to below 10% of the EU28 population in this age group by 2020.
