Anastasiades: Cyprus can perform an economic miracle as in 1974

Cyprus can perform the economic miracle, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades said at a meeting he held with the Qatari Business Association, adding that Cyprus has achieved this in the past, and more specifically in 1974.

According to an official press release, Anastasiades who is paying an official visit to Qatar, accompanied by other officials and Cypriot businessmen, referred to the efforts undertaken by his government for the recovery of the Cypriot economy and pointed out the many comparative advantages of Cyprus as an investment destination and the many prospects and opportunities arising in this field, such as in the sector of energy following the discovery of hydrocarbon reserves in Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone.
He added that with discipline and effort the Cypriot economy can recover.

Present at the meeting was the ministerial delegation accompanying the President to Qatar.

On his part, Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis spoke about the opportunties and prospects for major investments in Cyprus, expressing the government`s readiness to facilitate them.

Cyprus was divided in 1974, when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of its territory.
