Cyprus unemployment unchanged at 17.3% in November

Unemployment in Cyprus stabilised at 17.3% in November 2013, remaining unchanged compared to October.
According to data published Thursday by Eurostat, the number of unemployed reached 78,000 people. At the same time, unemployment rate in Eurozone and the EU remained stable.
According to seasonally adjusted data by Eurostat, unemployment ranged at 12.1% in the Euro area counties and at 10.9% in the EU. In Cyprus, male unemployment rates stood at 18%, female rates at 16.6% and youth unemployment under 25 at 24.2%.
The biggest increase within a year was recorded in Cyprus (from 13.3% to 17.3%), Italy (from 11.3% to 12.7%) and Greece (from 26% to 27.4%). On the other end, the largest decreased was observed in Ireland, from 14.3% to 12.3%.
In November 2013, 5.661 mln young persons were unemployed in the EU, of whom 3.575 mln were in the Euro area. Within a year, youth unemployment decreased by 46,000 in the EU and increased by 2,000 in the Euro area.
The lowest youth unemployment rates were observed in Germany (7.5%) and Austria (8.6%), and the highest in Spain (57.7%) and Greece (54.8% in September 2013).
Unemployment rates among Euro area members in November 2013 were the following: Greece 27.4 (September data), Spain 26.7%, Cyprus 17.3%, Portugal 15.5%, Slovakia 14.0%, Italy 12.7%, Ireland 12.3%, France 10.8%, Slovenia 9.9%, Estonia 9% (October data), Belgium 8.4%, Finland 8.4%, The Netherlands 6.9%, Malta 6.4%, Luxembourg 6.1%, Germany 5.2%, Austria 4.8%.
