A delegation from Eurocontrol will be in Cyprus in the next few days to begin a series of contacts with workers and the Ministry of Communications and Works, in the framework of a decision by the government to carry out a comprehensive study on the restructuring and autonomy of the Civil Aviation Department, and the creation of a state aeronautical services company.

In a message to mark International Civil Aviation Day, on December 7, Minister of Communications and Works Tasos Mitsopoulos notes that this year`s theme on meeting the challenges of 21st century air transport matched the government`s decision.

He also assured that the government`s efforts focused on addressing the problems of the past and building a new, stronger and reliable control system, which would be a lever for economic and social growth, and would support in a more flexible manner the new demands of the state and the society for security and quality in flights and air transport.

Cyprus joined the International Civil Aviation Organisation in 1961 and ratified the convention in 1988. December 7 was established as International Civil Aviation Day in 1996 by the UN General Assembly.
