Cyprus President: Sale of Greek/Cypriot properties in the occupied areas must stop

It`s time for Turkey and Turkish Cypriots "to make those bold steps to convince that they want and mean to implement the resolutions of the United Nations but also to fully aligned with their aspirations for EU membership," said Sunday Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades.

Speaking at the 33rd anti-occupation march of the Turkish-occupied municipality of Morphou, President Anastasiades said it’s time for Turkey and Turkish Cypriots "to make those bold steps to convince that they want and mean to implement the resolutions of the United Nations but also to fully aligned with their aspirations for EU membership".

"Is inconceivable to expect that I can go into a new dialogue for the solution of the Cyprus problem by avoiding their part to accept the obvious, namely, that our state, the state in evolution, will have a single international personality and a single sovereignty, a single citizenship", he noted.

President pointed out that Cypriots, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, since 2004 are European citizens and what they claim is the respect for their identity not just as Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, but primarily as Europeans.

The President expressed concern about the sellout of G / C properties in the occupied areas.

"Let them realize that without wanting or even of necessity, they create negative conditions for freedom, reunification and the bargaining power to bear on the table", he concluded.

He explained that we should not ignore that the Greek Cypriot properties which are compensated are transferred to the Turkish Government.
