Cyprus unemployed persons reached 44,424 in May, CyStat says

Unemployed persons reached 44,424 persons in May 2013, marking an increase of 10,262 persons compared the May 2012, figures released today by Cyprus Statistical Services show.

According to CyStat, the unemployed persons, registered at the District Labour Offices on the last day of May 2013, reached 44.424 persons.

Based on the seasonally adjusted data that shows the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for May 2013 increased to 45.736 persons in comparison to 44.333 in the previous month.

Compared with May 2012, an increase of 10.262 persons or 30,0% was recorded. On an annual basis the trade sector registered the highest increase rising by 2,464 persons, followed by public administration (1,391), construction (1,242), manufacturing (1,050), accommodation and food service activities (639).

Newcomers in the labour market marked an increase of 851 unemployed persons.
