Cyprus unemployment at 15.6% in April, says Eurostat

Cyprus unemployment climbed to 15.6% in April, compared to 11.2% in March, Eurostat data published on Friday show.

In absolute numbers that translates to 71,000 people.

According to Eurostat data, average unemployment in the euro zone in April rose marginally at 12.2%, from 12.1% in March. EU unemployment remained unchanged at 11.0%.

More analytical data reveal that unemployment for men in Cyprus, in April, stood at 15.8%, at 15.2% for women and at 32.7% among young people under 25 years of age (March data).

Eurozone average unemployment was recorded at 12.0% in men, 12.3% in women and at 24.4% in young people under 25.

Among Member States, the lowest unemployment rates were recorded in Austria (4.9%), Germany (5.4%) and Luxembourg (5.6%), and the highest in Greece (27.0% in February 2013), Spain (26.8%) and Portugal (17.8%).
