The overwhelming majority of foreign businesses operating in Cyprus wish to stay, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides has said.

Speaking at an international press briefing, at the ministry of foreign affairs, on Thursday and replying to a question Kasoulides said that Cypriot businessmen who have contacted their colleagues not only from Russia but from other European countries have said that in their overwhelming majority they want to stay and continue their operations.

He pointed out that apart from the fact that Cyprus was a financial services centre, businesses chose to use the country for their operations also because of the good business environment it provides and its excellent legal and judicial system.

“Our incentive so far was the very good environment in which our business centre was operating”. He acknowledged that one aspect of this the financial banking sector has disappointed – not Russians – many depositors.

“I think the best incentive for us would be to create a small, workable and controllable banking system”, he pointed out.
